8base Monthly Update — May 2018
Hello 8base community!
May was a busy month for team 8base, filled with plenty of announcements, events, and key partnerships being formed. This monthly update will serve to bring all of this news together in one place for our community!
Company Update
To start this update, we’d like to first share our announcement of the 8base team winning the first place prize at the Consensus 2018 Building Blocks Hackathon, AlphaPoint challenge!
Representing 8base in the hackathon was VP of Technology, Andrei Anisimov, Director of Design, Gabriel Kelly, and Engineering Team Lead, Evgeny Semushin. They participated in a weekend of building, hustling, and deep-diving into the blockchain industry’s most cutting edge developer tools alongside many of the world’s top blockchain developers vying to build the next killer smart contract app. Participants were allowed to build on top of any blockchain protocol and through various sponsor challenges, were encouraged to leverage the software and support made available to deliver their solutions.
Rising to the task, Andrei, Gabriel, and Evgeny were awarded first place from AlphaPoint by creating BlockSigma — a set of smart contracts that enable the creation and management of derivative contracts for crypto assets. The margin management is done on-chain and doesn’t require a centralized actor to ensure that the funds locked inside of the smart contract satisfy the maintenance margin requirements.

Team Update
We are very excited to share the announcement of Oscar Perez joining our executive leadership team as Vice President of Operations and Finance! He is a veteran enterprise technology leader who played a pivotal role alongside Albert at CareCloud as Vice President of Operations and Finance. At 8base, Oscar will lead the charge in helping us design, implement, and scale our company operations in support of a worldwide software development ecosystem.
Development Update
Earlier this month, we shared an invitation on our email newsletter to get early access to 8base through our private beta program! We received an incredible amount of submissions and will soon be working with a select number of individuals and companies to enable them to transform their idea for better software into a business application, at no cost!
Partnership Update
We are excited to have announced this month our collaboration with Science Blockchain to help expand our no-code development platform, tools, and ecosystem among businesses worldwide pursuing digital transformation. Science Blockchain, founded by Science Inc., is an incubator that is building a portfolio of blockchain — and cryptocurrency — related businesses to position them for long-term success. As part of the collaboration, Science Blockchain will support us with strategic and operational guidance and resources.
Community Update
The 8base team traveled to New York City to attend Consensus 2018 May 14–16. Consensus is a blockbuster blockchain technology summit hosted by CoinDesk, featuring over 250 speakers and over 4,000 attendees from the leading industry startups, investors, financial institutions, enterprise tech leaders, and academic and policy groups who are building the foundations of the blockchain economy. The team formed key relationships at this conference, including those with projects interested in developing on the 8base platform!
